     Welcome to the home page of the Midwest Region (MW) of the Consortium for Computing Sciences in Colleges (CCSC). The Midwest Region consists primarily of Eastern Illinois, Southern Wisconsin, Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, Western Pennsylvania, and Northern Kentucky, but we welcome people from everywhere. Please consider joining us.

All conference sessions will be held in the Daniel L. Goodwin Hall of Business (#8 on the map), except for the programming contest which will be held in Kindlon Hall of Learning (#5 on the map).  Parking is available in the parking garage next to Goodwin Hall (#7 on the map) or the Krasa Student Center lot (#A on the map).

CCSC:MW 2019

     We are pleased to announce that the twenty-sixth annual CCSC:MW Conference will held at Benedictine University, Lisle, IL. The date for this conference is October 4-5, 2019.  This two-day conference has refereed papers, invited speakers, tutorials, panels, workshops, and discussions on computing science education issues in smaller colleges and departments.

Get Involved!

     We are interested in all aspects of computing in colleges. If you teach in a computer-related discipline and it’s of interest to you, it’s of interest to the CCSC:MW community! We welcome original research, experience reports, case studies, and position papers on computing-related topics.

 

 

CCSC:MW 2018

     We have concluded a very successful and enjoyable 2018 CCSC:MW Conference at Ball State University, in Muncie, Indiana.

Each year, the CCSC:MW Conference convenes to share knowledge through Papers, Panels, Tutorials, and Workshops. The 2018 conference was held September 28-29, 2018, at Ball State University, in Muncie, Indiana

Final Conference Program

     We have concluded a very successful and enjoyable 2018 CCSC:MW Conference at Ball State University, in Muncie, Indiana.  There were a total of 134 attendees: 71 faculty attendees and presenters, 2 invited speakers, 42 full student conference attendees, 16 programming contest only student attendees, 2 National Partner, and 1 local vendor.

The Student Showcase Contest had 11 submissions, 5 in the Discovery track and 6 in the Application track, from 8 institutions. The winners included:

  • Discovery Track
    • First Place: Jori Gelbaugh and Amber Carnahan, Hope College, Articulus.
    • Second Place: Ryan Curstinger, Knox College, Smart Blocking.
    • Third Place: Harry Carpetner, Rishu Sharma, and Shogo Akiyama. Knox College, Allocation Algorithms for the Dragonfly Topology.
  • Application Track
    • First Place: Jinseo Park, Fort Hays State University, Algorithm Visualizer.
    • Second Place: Joel Stehouwer, Andrew Lang, Drew Campo, and Corwin Webster. Calvin College, Agora: Project Showcase.
    • Third Place: Doug Ferguson, Marcus Beal, Alex Emmert, Chandler Derry, and Michael Clark. Carl Sandburg College,Integrating Mobile Apps into the EV3 Robotic platform.

 

The Student Programming Contest had 21 teams from 12 institutions participating. 13 teams solved 1 or more of the 7 problems posed, and 4 problems were solved at least once. The winning teams for the Student Programming Contest were:

  • First Place: Calvin College IV
  • Second Place: Taylor University I
  • Third Place: Knox College I

 

Since only one team per institution can place in the contest, honorable mention to Calvin College II who finished in second.

The papers are available at the ACM Digital Library by using the Journal of Computing Sciences in Colleges Archive page or directly to Volume 33, Issue 1, October 2017You do not need an ACM DL account to access the Journal.
